The credit card processing interface did not properly process October expiration dates. This patch will fix each of the programs listed to the right.

In addition, this patch fixes a problem in Billing program 4 where freight charges could calculate incorrectly after applying an additional discount to the invoice.

2004 Year End Tax Updates

This patch includes updated programs and Print Layout (PL) files for printing 2004 W2 and 1099-MISC tax forms as well as files containing updated tax tables for 2005.

Tax tables updated: FWT, FICA, AZ, CA, KY, ME MD, MI, MN, MT, ND, NY, NY-NYC, NY-Yonkers, PA, VA and VT.

This patch contains three programming changes and updated tax tables, for the following:
(1) A fix for a Report Generator problem where an extra page could be printed when a subtotal section was forced to the bottom of a page.
(2) This fix addresses a problem in Order Entry that can occur when previously allocated explosion items are deleted from an order.
(3) The SA17 patch corrects a problem where certain new fields were not updated when converting data from Armor Premier.

In addition to the above programming patches, this patch includes updated tax tables for 2005 for the following states: MA, MO, NM and RI.

This patch file contains only the TAX 1 and TAX 2 files. In addition to all previous tax table updates this patch will have new tables added as they become available.

JAN 4, 2005: Added current tables for Oklahoma.

JAN. 6, 2005: Added current tables for the District of Columbia.

JAN. 25, 2005: Added adjusted table for Montana. This table goes into effect immediately.

MAR. 4, 2005: Added new tables for Iowa which take effect April 1, 2005.

MAY 2, 2005: Added new tables for Idaho that take effect as of January 1, 2005. The state says that no retroactive adjustments are required but employers should begin using the new tables immediately.

JULY 20, 2005: Added new table for Kentucky that is effective immediately.

OCT. 18, 2005: Corrected a problem on Mississippi Married tables.

This patch contains fixes for 4 areas:

(1) A display problem when doing look-ups on RDA files;
(2) Problems found during Unix testing;
(3) A fix to Payroll program 25, Tax Returns that affects how pre-tax deductions are handled on the State and Local reports (eliminates the need for a Federal reference on pre-tax deductions); and
(4) A fix to RG that corrects a variable calculation problem when variables are based on different logical list files that are the same physical file and also corrected a problem with the way RG dealt with work files.

Because this patch contains an EARTH change it is rather large (6 Mb.) and may take a minute or two to download over a Broad Band connection.

This patch adds an enhancement to the A/R Customer master that allows for the entry of a secondary sales-person number. This secondary salesperson is used as a default in Billing and Order Entry as well as in A/R program 17, Post Invoices.

In addition to this new feature there is also a fix for Order Entry program 1 which had a problem with the rolling functionality on the item detail screen. If the first line that would appear on a given page were message lines, the display would skip past them until it found item details.

This patch affects files in all three of the RTS-Advantage directories. It is recommend that you run a recoverable backup before installing this patch. Then read and follow the instructions to ensure a successful installation.

In Order Entry program 1, Prepare Orders, there was a problem with detail tax totals and freight charges not being handled correctly in certain circumstances. Also, Order Entry program 54, Order From Estimate, was changed to copy the default secondary salesperson when a new customer is assigned to an order.

The credit card interface now properly recognizes a manually specified path for the REQ files.

System Administrator program 11 (Modify Reports) now allows you to set the number of decimals on individual percentage fields. Click here for more details.

Patch 16 addresses the following:

The credit card system was not accepting expiration dates in the year 2010.

Quick Sale program 14 had a problem where the line discount percent was improperly applied if you replaced an item on an invoice. This problem only occurred if the cashier was set to not stop at the Line Discount prompt.

Version changes related to changes made for Unix compatibility, should be no change to DOS functionality.

Bank Reconciliation program 3 didn't properly adjust bank balances when printing for multiple banks and the alternate main menu didn't include the new program, 6, Clear/View Transactions.

In the Inventory module, several printing programs had a problem when limiting a report to only one Item Description.

Point of Sale now allows you to automatically display inventory item and preset notes when adding them to an invoice.

Point of Sale will now display the profit for the item being added/edited on the invoice

The Last Price Paid window available in PS-4, Full Invoicing, now includes a column for the profit realized on each sale.

OE-1 and 6 now allows you to automatically display Inventory Item notes when adding or editing them on an order.

This patch adds sveral new features, fixes some small problems, and also updates some aspects of the software that must be changed in order to be compatible with RTS's upcoming Windows version release:

IN-31 now has a new Lable Printing option.

Two new key files have been added to the Inventory audit trail.  This will significantly speed up processing and printing of reports that use the audit trail.

CI-81 now have all CI fields available to be printed.

BL-4 & 10 have had the Customer State field added to their respective reports.

This patch adds sveral new features, fixes some small problems, and also updates some aspects of the software that must be changed in order to be compatible with RTS's upcoming Windows version release of the Bank Reconciliation module :

AR-25 Now has a new key file added for sorting in order by Customer Number, Item Number and Date Sold.

OE-2 and BL-10 can now range by Customer Category Code.

AR-19 You can now specify the invoice number associated with the service charges created in this program.

Order Entry and Billing now have a new field called Additional Tax that allows mamually calculated taxes to be entered on orders/invoices.

Order Entry now has a System Defaults option that allows you to choose whether Additional Freight and Additional Tax amounts should be transferred only once to Billing for an order, or added to every invoice created from an order.

Two new pre-tax deduction types are now to be reported on W-2's; Roth 401(k) and Roth 403(b).

W-2's now have a separate area set aside where employee name suffixes (Jr., III, etc) are now printed separate from the rest of the name.

Added an entire new page of calculation options in PR-2, Deduction Tables.

PR-58 has been changed to have a single option for transferring tax tables.

Revised tax tables for 2007 for the following states:

This patch contains minor software fixes, a number of enhancements, and a new feature for use in conjunction with the new Windows version of the software.

System Administrator program 11, Modify Reports, when using the numeric display options (dollar signs, commas, etc.),the printed numbers sometimes failed to line up properly when printed in a column on reports.

General Ledger program 20, Income Analysis, was printing total lines twice if they were of certain total styles.

The Inventory Item lookup window in Unix would send the cursor scampering about the screen if you entered a partial key in the Group Number field and then backspaced to the beginning of the field.

In Payroll program 25, Tax Returns, the State Tax report would not include in gross wages any pay types that had an exempt deduction with the same state code as the pay.

System Administrator program 11, Modify Reports, now has a new Images option. This feature allows you to define image files (BMP files only) to print on reports in the Windows version of the software.

Purchase Orders program 9, Post POs, was changed to force a quantity backordered of zero if the quantity ordered of an item is negative.

Purchase Orders program 10, Post Items Received, has had a number of changes to make it more flexible and in the process fixed a number of problems that could crop up when doing unusual things like receiving negatives and receiving more than was ordered.

Purchase Orders program 53, Purge POs, was improved in its methodology for purging line items.

The Purchase Orders default print layout file was previously issued with the quantity decimals set to zero by default.  Changed the default to two decimals, a more common setting.

AR program 25, Sales History, did not properly limit the report based on entering a range to include only one specfic Invoice Reference.

The default reports printed by Inventory program 29, Below Minimum, and program 30, Serial Age Analysis, have been rearranged and improved for better readability.

A number of new fields have been added to various Inventory files for the upcoming Windows product.  There will be no visable change in the DOS version.

Inventory program 25, Clear Sales Totals, has been changed internally for compatibility with the upcoming Windows product.  There will be no noticeable functional change in the DOS version.

Point of Sale will now support the Logic Controls display poles.

Point of Sale program 51, Estimate To Invoice, has been enhanced with a new option that allows estimates to be copied or transferred to layaway invoices.
In addition, the Auto invoice numbering feature is now available in the Transfer option.

Accounts Receivable program 52, Update General Ledger: A new feature has been added whereby you can choose to increment the Document Code on each entry created in General Ledger on an update.

Inventory: Another batch of new fields have been added to various files for new features that will be in the upcoming Windows version of the module.

Point of Sale: A new feature that adds two additional subtotals to Point of Sale invoices has been created.

Point of Sale: The recent enhancement to deal with longer Windows printer names created some problems in the Point of Sale invoicing and system defaults programs; programs 4, 5, 13 and 50 all have changed to better deal with the longer names.

Point of Sale program 51, Estimate To Invoice: The new feature of transferring estimates to layaways would get fatal errors when trying to create Inventory allocations in some circumstances.

Order Entry program 52, Create Drop Ship POs: When the program created purchase orders it did not fill in the Backorder Quantity field.

Purchase Orders program 10, Post Items Received: Was not properly updating the Total Cost of a purchase order when deleting receipts.

Bank Reconciliation program 1, Gather Transactions: The program would duplicate AP checks that were already gathered if the transaction description in Bank Reconciliation was changed from that brought over originally from Accounts Payable.

Earth/Root: Changed to recognize print layouts that apply only to the Windows version of the product.

Earth/Root: Enhanced the "Invalid Environment Variable" message to print the specific path that is causing the problem. Should make troubleshooting simpler.

AdvMulti: Changed to recognize when being called from the Windows version of RTS-Advantage.

System Administrator: Program 11, Modify Reports, has new capabilities for defining bar codes to print on reports and for defining laser sheet label report formats.

General Ledger: Updated for printing 2007 W-2s.

General Ledger: Added the ability to set an operating system environment variable "NODOLLAR" that the program will read. If the variable is detected the dollar signs will be omitted from the text versions of the financial statement amount fields

Payroll: Updated for printing 2007 W-2s.

Payroll: Added the ability to record Health Savings Account plans on W-2s.

Payroll: Updated the OASDI default limits in program 25, Tax Returns, and program 26, Print W-2s.

Payroll: Tax tables were updated for 2008 for California, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, Utah, North Carolina, New Mexico, Virginia and federal taxes.

Purchase Orders: Programs 9, 10 and 13 will now show both the Total Cost and Remaining Cost of the PO.

Point of Sale: New Feature: Program 4, Full Invoicing now handles delivery addresses.

Point of Sale: Program 4, Full Invoicing, has a new field on screen one titled Post Date.

Point of Sale: Program 4, Full Invoicing, and 5, Quick Invoicing, now transfer the AR customer's fax number and key contact from AR onto the Point of Sale invoices.

Point of Sale: The login name of the last person to work on an invoice is now stored in the Point of Sale invoice file and has been added to the invoice formats and the Point of Sale Detail report.

Point of Sale: The cash drawer functionality has been enhanced so that cash drawers no longer have to be on a "Y" cable with your printer.

Point of Sale: The Lost Sales feature has been enhanced to automatically record not only the item number entered but also the posting date, login name, terminal number, invoice number (if assigned at the time), customer number, customer name, and salesperson number.

Order Entry: The Item Location for Inventory items has been added to the reports printed by program 2, Print Orders, and program 1, Prepare Orders.

Patch 34 incorporates the following changes:

General Ledger Program 23, Tax Forms: As reported in the previous newsletter, W2s were incorrectly updated for 2007. This patch contains the corrected print layout.

Payroll Program 26, W-2/1099 Forms: A new prompt has been added which gives you the option of including employee contributions to Health Savings Account plans.

Inventory Program 55, Import Data: Reporting item selling prices on its variance report. These figures were changed to report costs instead which are far more useful for auditing purposes.

Inventory Program 56, Quantity Reconciliation: Reports a problem if a serial number's warehouse quantity on hand does not match the serial number's quantity on hand, but did not print any explanatory text defining the problem.

Inventory Program 81, Inventory Master Report: Did not include the newly added reference types 6-8 on the report.

Point of Sale Program 4, Full Invoicing: In adding the new delivery feature to the program, we used up enough additional resources that some users were getting out of memory errors when trying to do certain things in that program (most notably, adding an Inventory item on the fly).

Order Entry Program 3, Print Picking Ticket: Added many additional fields to section 10, the item detail.

Report Generator did not offer to print by the Item Master's Description Key on reports with Inventory file A as the primary file.

Changes were made to several other system data files relating to forthcoming Windows products.

Patch 35 incorporates the following changes:

Main Menu:  The latest patch number installed now displays at the top of the main menu.

System Administrator Program 9, Relink Files:  The program was doing an unnecessary sort on file 6 of Inventory.

System Administrator Program 11, Modify Reports:  Was not saving edited Page Width settings on laser label formats for Windows.

System Administrator Program 11, Modify Reports:  When using the Specify option on certain decimal numbers the display would get trashed.

Accounts Payable Program 5, Post Invoices:  Would consolidate invoices with matching info but opposite signs.  Created odd looking transactions in certain cases, so it will no longer consolidate these.

Payroll Program 15, Calculate Taxes/Deductions:  When an employee with a direct deposit account elected to stop the direct deposit, the Calculate program was in some cases not properly recognizing that the direct deposit was no longer active.

Payroll tax tables for Utah and Idaho, which both recently announced changes to their previously announced 2008 tax rates, have been updated.

Payroll Program 2, Deduction Tables:  Utah has come up with a uniquely loopy tax table structure for 2008 which required RTS to add an extra Net Table line to the tax tables.

Inventory programs 10, 28, 35, and 54 have been changed to ignore the new Cost Plus discounts now available in the Windows version.

Inventory Program 81, Item Master Print:  Fixed a problem where some label formats did not allow the user to Separate By Warehouse.

Many new formats were added to the Inventory print layout file for Windows.  Some formats shared by DOS and Windows were also cleaned up or had additional fields added.

New Feature! Allocations created by Point of Sale, Order Entry and Billing now include the Estimated Ship Date of the item from the invoice/order.

Purchase Orders Program 10, Post Items Received:  A recent patch enhanced this program to not 'go through the motions' of receiving items when the operator specifies a receiving quantity of zero.  RTS restored that functionality for the Partial option only.

Purchase Orders Program 53, Purge Expired/Completed:  If you selected to only purge expired POs and to purge hold POs the program would also purge completed POs with holds.

Point of Sale Program 3, Start Cash Drawer:  Was putting junk in the Printer Number field if you did a lookup there.

Point of Sale Program 51, Estimate to Invoice:  Allowed cash estimates to be converted to layaways which should not have been allowed.

Point of Sale Programs 4 & 5, Full & Quick Invoicing:  Some cash drawers, or printers that control cash drawers, require that null digits be sent as part of the 'open drawer' command.  Point of Sale Full and Quick Invoicing took null codes to mean 'end of instruction' and did not send them, so the drawer would not open.

Bank Reconciliation Program 3, Print Reconciliation:  The program would accept an invalid Last GL Update Date and then print a report with figures that didn't make sense.

File Maintenance thought that one field in the Inventory Audit file was supposed to be right-justified when it wasn't.

Report Generator:  A few fields in the AR Customer Master file had incorrect default settings in the Report Generator dictionary.

Patch 36 incorporates the following changes:

RTS-Advantage reset the COM port settings to user preferences based on environment variables.

A number of fixes and improvements were made to System Administrator program 11 (Modify Reports) as RTS developed the Windows version of this program.

Additions to many System Administrator programs were made for compatibility with the forthcoming Windows Point of Sale module.

When developing the Windows version of System Administrator program 7 (Update Files) several small problems were found and corrected in the DOS version.

New Feature: Payroll can now calculate and properly apply the EIC amount for each pay period.  Previously, EIC amounts would have been manually calculated or simply entered as a standard flat amount for each pay period.

Payroll program 15 (Calculate Taxes/Deductions) was trying to take into account pre-tax deductions when 'calculating' flat rate deductions, with the result that flat rate deductions were being pro-rated when they should simply be a flat rate as defined.

A new key file has been defined for the Payroll Employee Master on Social Security Number.   New sort options were added to some printing programs in Payroll that can take advantage of the new key.  In addition Payroll program 6 (Employee Master) will now show a warning if a Social Security Number is entered that matches that of another employee.

A large group of employee information fields have been added to the reports for Payroll program 25 (Tax Returns) including address, phone number, hire and termination dates, etc.

Payroll tax tables for Maryland have been changed (yet again) for new rates.   EIC tables have been added.

You can now specify custom text descriptions for your payment types.   Custom descriptions are set up in Accounts Receivable program 50, and are displayed in AR program 18 (Post Payments), Point of Sale 4 and 5 (Full/Quick Invoicing), Billing program 4 and 9 (Invoices/View Invoices) and Order Entry programs 1 and 6 (Orders/View Orders).

The screen form for Billing program 4 has been streamlined to free up memory which was getting tight in the program.  No change in functionality.

Point of Sale program 4 (Full Invoicing) has a new option to move a line on an invoice.

The print layouts for Point of Sale programs 4 and 5 (Full and Quick Invoicing) have had the main salesperson's name added.

Order Entry program 54 (Order From Estimate) was messing up line and additional discounts when copying or transferring estimates to orders.

Updated print layout files have been provided for all modules.

In Accounts Receivable program 9 (Contract Pricing) you can now use the Copy option to copy a group of contract prices from one customer to a range of customers, rather than to just one.

Inventory program 6 (Allocations) has a new capability for viewing allocations for a specific warehouse.

Inventory program 6 (Allocations) has been updated for compatibility with the forthcoming Windows Point of Sale module.

The AR Customer Master 'State' field has been added to section 1 of all invoice formats for Point of Sale program 4.

A new security option was added, accessible in System Administrator program 4 (Security), that controls whether a login is allowed to convert layaways in Point of Sale program 4 (Full Invoicing).

Minor screen clearing problem in Point of Sale program 51 (Estimate To Invoice). In Billing program 4 (Invoicing), if you edited the shipped or backordered quantity for an item on an invoice that originated as an order in Order Entry, the Order Entry order was not having its backorder quantity recalculated correctly if there were currently picked quantities outstanding for that item.

System Administrator program 9 (Relink) was not doing as thorough a job as it could on one particular class of linked files.

Added some missing fields from the Inventory Item Master to the Import Data module.

IMPORTANT RELEASE FOR X-CHARGE USERS

The credit card industry is making a major change to their rules, effective July 1 2010.  In the past, POS systems like ours were allowed to capture credit card information directly and send it on to processing applications like X-Charge.  Because of concerns over security and the increasing rate of credit card fraud, this type of system has, for all intents and purposes, been disallowed by credit card issuers.

In response, RTS has redesigned the credit card/check guarantee interface so that all sensitive data is entered by the user in X-Charge directly.  When you run a payment transaction RTS-Advantage will automatically start the X-Charge window, passing non-sensitive information like transaction amount, invoice number, clerk ID and so on.  The net result is that instead of entering the information in our window, you'll enter it in X-Charge's window, a very minor change to your procedures.

If you are an X-Charge user it is very important that you download and install this patch before July 1 and update your X-Charge software to the current version 7 release to ensure uninterrupted service.

When you install the new version many of your settings in the various Merchant Services programs of RTS-Advantage will no longer have any effect since they were settings specific to our old interface.  Settings that remain active are:

  • Use Credit Card Verification/Check Guarantee System
  • Process Refunds
  • Process Voids
  • Receipt Report Format/Number of Copies
  • Request Answer Directory

Inactive prompts will be removed in a future patch.

Other issues addressed in this patch:

Changed terminal dates did not immediately refresh on main program screens.  AR, BL, OE, PS and QS main menu programs have been updated in this patch.

Made AR System Defaults (program 50) more resistant to crashing when opening a bad FR file for General Ledger or Inventory.

Custom Sort Order in AR (program 54) did not properly update key files if the Item Number field was added to the Sales History Custom Sort Order key file.  Only seemed to cause problems for the Windows Point of Sale Invoicing module, which would give debug errors when trying to access this key.  If you are experiencing this problem you will need to delete and recreate your AR company FR file and reset the Custom Sort Orders to fully correct the problem.

The new Root Version is 4.08 for the affected modules after successfully installing this patch.

The Utah changes required a change to the way tables are entered and calculated, so the new Utah tables will not work properly unless you are current as of Patch-35.

The Louisiana tables are not required until July 1, 2009, but it is our understanding that users may begin using them before that date;  the tax rate changes will be applied to the entire year when filing tax returns in 2010.

Both the Louisiana and Missouri tables use the FWT deductions in their calculations, so be sure to note the deduction numbers listed on the existing tables before deleting them. Those deduction codes will be listed in the left-most column on the Ded 1 and Ded 2 lines, take note of those deduction numbers--you’ll need to enter them when transferring in the new tables in program 58.

March  2,  2009:  Updated tables for the following:

  • EIC
  • Federal Withholding

NOTE:  In order for the EIC tables to function properly, you must also have your version 4 software current as of Patch 36. The tables have a new prompt at the end to accomodate EIC calculations which required programming changes throughout the module.

These changes are in response to the recently enacted stimulus package.  The IRS asks that employers begin using these tables in liew of the previously published tables as soon as possible, but no later than April 1, 2009.
